Surgical Theatres
Spectacular progress has occurred in the development of diagnostic facilities, improved aseptic procedures, sophisticated equipment and skills in the recent past. These coupled with safer anesthetic techniques have made surgical intervention feasible for a number of medical installations. It is imperative that the surgical theatre is designed scientifically to ensure sterility, easy maintenance and effective utilization. The surgical theatre is that specialized facility of the hospital where life saving or life improving procedures are carried out on the human body by invasive methods under strict aseptic conditions in a controlled environment by specially trained personnel to promote healing and cure with maximum safety, comfort and economy.AMC has recognized these life saving developments and has fully embraced them in the planning and design of its three surgical theatres. Each one will be a totally self-contained, seamless, fully equipped operating room which will control contamination risks from the outside. Central air conditioning will ensure a temperature range within 20 – 24 C with 50 – 60 humidity level and a minimum of 20 air changes per hour with ultra clean laminar air flow. Each surgical theatre will maintain positive air pressure to prevent the entry of outside contaminating agents. These design elements will drastically reduce the possibility of post operative infection.
The comfort of the family and the patient are also in the forefront of our concerns. Pleasant and comfortable waiting rooms will be designed for anxious family and friends.
AMC's five surgical areas – general surgery, orthopedics, urology, skin and plastic surgery - will meet patient needs of safety, convenience and economy. A sampling of surgical procedures within each area exemplifies the high level of expertise and technology that will be incorporated.
- Anaesthetic care in the operating theatres for all types of surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Post operative care and supervision in the recovery room
- Sedation and anaesthesia in endoscopy and radiology suites as required
- Pain amelioration.
Anaesthesia and Pain management
Although not strictly a surgical area, anaesthesiology is central and crucial to any surgical intervention. Anaesthesiologists apply their knowledge of medicine to fulfill their primary role in the operating room, which is not only to ensure your comfort during surgery, but also to make informed medical judgments to protect you. These include treating and regulating changes in your critical life functions -- breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure -- as they are affected by the surgery being performed.
These medical specialists are the doctors who will immediately diagnose and treat any medical problems that might arise during your surgery or recovery period. The role of an anaesthesiologist extends beyond the operating room and recovery room. Anesthesiologists are also involved in pain management, including diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic problems.
Patients presenting for surgical care at AMC are assured of exceptionally qualified anaesthesiologists who have dedicated themselves to the highest standards in anaesthesia, pain management and critical care. Our anaesthesiologists utilize the latest technology and most advanced techniques with proven track records of patient safety.
AMC anaesthesia services cover a wide range of specialty and subspecialty in anaesthesia including:
Clinical Anaesthesia
Pain clinic
Our goal is to help AMC patients return to a normal productive life-style. Whether the pain is short-term or chronic, our skilled team will assess the situation and design a treatment program to address each patient's specific needs.Today as many as one person in four people suffers from acute or chronic pain intense enough to impact their daily lives. The result is millions of shekels each year in lost wages, productivity and disability costs. The good news is there are many ways to manage chronic pain.
For individuals battling acute or chronic pain, we have an established program that can provide effective treatment against this debilitating condition. Physicians, neurologists, anaesthesiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses and others work together, screening all pain management patients to determine who would benefit from therapy services in managing their acute or chronic pain.
Medication alone may not be enough to manage certain kinds of pain. Some medicines are more effective in fighting pain when they are combined with other methods of treatment. In some cases, the patient's pain condition may respond to treatment instead of medication. In fact, for some patients, certain therapies may eventually replace the need for taking any pain medicine, or less of it, over time. Here are just some of the available treatments being used successfully to treat pain patients: injection of local anesthetics (including epidurals) or nerve blocks, physical therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and psychological support.
General Surgical
General surgical procedures such as hernia and recurrent hernia repair, lipomatous (benign fatty) tumor removable and removal of underarm lymph nodes.
Orthopedics
In the past, treatment of orthopedic injuries involved extensive surgery, including large incisions, a hospital stay, and a prolonged recovery period. But today, with the help of an arthroscope, today's orthopedic surgeon can easily examine, diagnose, and treat problems in the joint that previously may have been difficult to identify. The arthroscope is a small fiber-optic viewing instrument made up of a tiny lens, light source and video camera, has revolutionized the treatment of joint injuries. The surgical instruments used in arthroscopic surgery are very small (only 3 or 4 mm in diameter), but appear much larger when viewed through an arthroscope. Almost any region of the knee, shoulder, ankle, wrist, elbow, even the big toe, may be treated arthroscopically.- Flexible and rigid cytoscopy for inspecting the urinary bladder and urethra for conditions such as frequent urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, blood in the urine (hematuria), painful urination, chronic pelvic pain, urinary blockage such as from prostate enlargement, stricture, or narrowing of the urinary tract or unusual growth, polyp, tumor, or cancer
- Prostate biopsy
- Urethrotomy for opening a stricture of the urethra
- Catheter maintenance
- Nephrostomy for making an artificial opening between the skin and the kidney which allows for drainage into an external bag.
Urology
The mission of AMC is to provide unequalled urologic care in a compassionate setting in a modern facility offering a full range of outpatient urologic services, for example:- Rhinoplasty (nose surgery)
- Blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery)
- Skin blemish removal
- Scar revision
- Nipple and breast reconstruction following mastectomy.
Skin and Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery is a medical specialty to change the appearance and function of a person's body. Plastic surgery procedures include both aesthetic cosmetic enhancements as well as functionally reconstructive (medical) operations. Some of the services offered are:Additionally, each surgical theatre will be equipped with advanced digital video conferencing equipment to enable both the inclusion of experts from around the world in sophisticated surgical procedures and also to serve as an medical educational platform.
